An evening at The Drumming Snipe

7pm -11pm

What's that sound? A horse? A goat? A walrus maybe?

In days gone by, the distinctive ‘drumming’ of a snipe’s tail feathers at twilight caused all sorts of confusion.

The Alaskan Nunamiut thought they were hearing a walrus.

In parts of Sweden, it was mistaken for the whinny of a horse.

And in Northern Germany, some were convinced it was Thor’s goats pulling his chariot across the heavens.

Goats!

We’d like to think we’re not so mutton-headed here in Woking.

What we’ve heard is that The Drumming Snipe is one of the best places to gather for a great evening out.

If you’ve dined there before, you’ll know the atmosphere is warm and inviting, the food consistently good, and the service always a delight, making it a favourite for special occasions.

On this special occasion you’ll be supporting local cancer-related charities. And yes, there will be a raffle!

The evening will be accompanied by some gentle background music, but definitely no ‘drumming’.

Join us ‘on the green’ for the President’s Dinner

Sutton Green Golf Club — 7th June

7:00pm for 7:30pm

Join us for an evening of fine dining, fellowship and soul.

The Rotary President’s Dinner is a special occasion in the club calendar—an opportunity to reaffirm the values we share: service, friendship, and community spirit.

This year’s dinner will support two remarkable causes: Woking Community Hospital and the Sand Dam Project in Kenya.

Following a three-course meal, the evening takes a soulful turn with live music and dancing. Those who joined us at The Gosling earlier this year will remember the outstanding saxophonist, Joe, whose performance set the tone for a magical night. This time, Joe returns—joined by the equally superb vocalist, Pippa.

Expect a night of Motown, Northern Soul, Stax, and more—timeless classics from the golden era of 60s and 70s soul, all delivered with swing, style, and spirit.

Putt the date in your diary. 7th June at Sutton Green Golf Club, New Lane, Sutton Green, Woking GU4 7QF

Tickets are £40 for the meal, payable in advance. This figure excludes drinks.

31 March 2025

Join us for dinner at The Gosling.

We are holding a Woking Rotary Friends & Partners Dinner at The Gosling on the 31st March.

This smartly refurbished former pub opened in November 2023 to become a “fully fledged” restaurant (with an elegant bar attached).

Under the careful management of Nick Levantis and Trevor Healy and the involvement of Executive Chef Mark Wadsworth, former head chef at Brighton’s acclaimed Salt Room, the Gosling has lived up to its early ambitions to deliver excellent modern European cuisine. The same management team have enjoyed great success at The Swan in West Malling, Kent.

Aside from good food and good company, there will be entertainment during the evening provided by saxophonist Joe Lai-Tan. I know what you’re thinking. A Saxophone! It might be hard to pick a wine to go with it. But rest assured, it’ll be fun.

Mark the date in your diary. 31st March at The Gosling, Chertsey Rd. Woking GU21 5NL

Tickets are £40 for the meal, payable in advance. This figure excludes drinks. There will be a raffle.

Banquet at the Beijing

Join us at the Beijing for a Chinese Banquet on the 17th February 2025.

On the 17th February, just as the 2025 Chinese New Year celebrations come to a close, we’ll be hosting a Chinese banquet at the Beijing restaurant in Horsell High St. 95-99 High Street, GU21 4SY.

Although 2025 is the year of the snake, we can promise there will be no snake on the menu. As in previous years, along with good company and a wonderful selection of chinese dishes, there will be plenty of entertainment and a raffle during the course of the evening.

Tickets are £40 for the meal, payable in advance. This figure excludes drinks. There will be a raffle.
