This week’s speaker was Mark Secker who is a member of Bookham & Horsley Rotary Club and is also the District Assistant Secretary in charge of IT. He gave a presentation about Rotary View. This is a database which is accessible to all Rotarians who have registered for MyRotary. Through it a member can access and edit the information that Rotary holds on them, their security settings, which determine who can see their information, and whether they want to receive emails from the District, their Club, RGBI and Rotary International. They can also input information on their spouse or partner, providing that the member has their permission. The Club Secretary would normally input the data and is responsible for keeping it up to date. Members can also see but not edit information on their club including other members’ contact details (the on-line equivalent of the yellow book). They can also look up members of other clubs including overseas members. Another useful faciity is the ability to send emails to groups of members or members individually without having to create a special list. Members found the presentation very useful and asked a number of questions. Graham Fagence gave the vote of thanks.
Another guest at the meeting was Joy Allen who is Chair of Trustees of Age UK Surrey. This is a charity that provides services for older people including Home Helps, a Gardening Service, Independent Care Advice advice on Last Powers of Attorney and a wide range of other services. It is based in Milford but provides services across Surrey. It is separate from the national Age UK but is affiliated to it. Joy gave a short talk about the Charity which had participated in our doorstep Christmas collections and the Club gave it a donation of £250.
