Lunchtime Speaker – Swimathon Charities Presentation

March 2 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

his week we had a special lunch meeting at which we presented cheques to local charities from the proceeds
of the Swimathon. Last October’s Swimathon was the best in the Club’s history and raised £18,000. Thanks are
due to the swimmers and volunteers and also our sponsor Trident Honda. Over the 19 years that the
Swimathon has been held, we have raised over £200,000. David Hughes outlined plans to make it even more
successful. Terry Smith thanked David for computerising the admin side of Swimathon, which has greatly
reduced the workload of volunteers. He also thanked Richard Roberts of Trident Honda for being the sponsor
since its commencement, which has greatly reduced the Club’s risks in running it and has also contributed
greatly to the amount raised. Representatives of all the charities to which we are making donations were
present at the lunch. The charities were Freemantles School (a school for children with autism), Meath
School (a special school for children with severe and complex communication needs), Woking Community
First Responders (provides a backup to ambulance service by responding to 999 emergency calls), SERV
Surrey and London (transports blood and other products to hospitals), Woking Snorkel & Scuba (teaches
snorkelling and scuba diving to children), Woking & Sam Beare Hospice (hospice/end of life care). The
cheques were presented to the charities by Richard Roberts of Trident Honda.
