Lunchtime Speaker – Tahir Masud – Twin Town (Football)

April 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

This week our speaker was Tahir Masud. Tahir is a committee member on Woking Town Twinning Association. He has built a strong relationships with Le Plessis Robinson, which is one of Woking's two twin towns. In recent years, he has arranged visits by children from three local primary schools, Barnsbury, Hermitage and Horsell Junior School to Le Plessis Robinson to play football and he has also organised trips by children from Le Plessis to Woking. The Town Twinning Association is also working on building links between Horsell High School, St John the Baptist and Woking College with similar schools in Le Plessis. The French school system is slightly different to ours. The equivalent of our primary school, l’école primaire, goes from age 6 to age 10, le collège (junior secondary school) from 11 to 15 and le lycée (senior secondary school/sixth form college) from 16 to 18. John Kingsbury, the Chairman of the Association is trying to build links between secondary schools in Rastatt, Woking’s other twin town, with secondary schools in Woking. Tahir also spoke about a catering stall which he had run in Woking Park to raise money for charities before Covid. He would like to revive it. Teresa Stedman gave the vote of thanks. She thanked Tahir for his very interesting talk. At the lunch we presented Corporate Membership plaques to Horsell Lodge Care Home and Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
