July 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Handover meeting & Club AssemblyThis week we had a combined Assembly and Handover Meeting. Nana Opare, who is the Assistant Governor for our area, attended the meeting. Committee Chairs presented their reports on the 2024/25 Rotary Year and their plans for 2025/26. Brian Nettleingham is standing down as Chair of Club Services and will be replaced by Teresa Stedman. Tony Usher has been elected as Treasurer. Carol Cheesman, who was President for 2024/25 has been re-elected as the President for 2025/26. She gave a report on her year of office. Carol’s objective was to rejuvenate the Club after Covid. The Club has recruited 6 new members, including for first time in its history, three corporate members: Woking & Sam Beare Hospice, Woking Football Club and Horsell Lodge Care Home. We held a number of successful Partners & Friends events, which included dinners at Versova Indian Restaurant, the Beijing Chinese restaurant and the Gosling. We had good attendance at each event raised £700 to £1000 for charity. We held a successful Racenight in October 2024 and a Quiz in March this year. The annual Swimathon raised money for Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and three other local causes – GASP, Woking High School and Woking Youth Theatre. We had Christmas collections at Morrisons and Jubllee Square and also had street collections with the help of Horsell Care and Age UK to raise money for local charities. We have donated money to the new Diagnostic Unit at Woking Community Hospital. This was a joint project with Woking District Rotary Club and the Friends of Woking Community Hospital. We are combining with the same partners in a project to refurbish the Bradley Ward at the hospital. The Club has recently formed a link with the Rotary Club of Clamart, Le Plessis Robinson, Velizy based in Woking’s French twin town. Club members visited the French Club in May this year. Nana Opare spoke about the importance of boosting membership. Keith Tatlock proposed a vote of thanks to Carol thanking her for very successful and extremely active year as President and looking forward to her next year.
